Avalanche sign RW Yip to entry level contract

Tonight Colorado signed another of it's college prospects, 24 year old Brandon Yip. Yip was one of many of the Avalanche's players to win the NCAA Championship with Boston University last season (along with Cohen, Millan, and Shattenkirk).

Yip has an outside chance to make the team next season, but it is a chance. He's already 24 years old, and we're talking about a team short on forwards who are expected to finish near the bottom of the conference. It's likely Yip will play in the AHL, however.

I'd say Yip's ceiling is a 2nd line RW, but that's a stretch. Most think he's a 4th/3rd line guy, but I think he has the offensive tools to be one of those 20 goal-30 point grinding RW's. Over the last two seasons at BU, Yip compiled 31 goals, 66 points, and 146 penalty minutes in 82 games played.
