Sundin To The Avalanche A Possibility?

So...where is Mats Sundin going? The obvious front runners appear to be Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver, and the golf course. Another confirmed team interested is the Rangers (don't ask me how they intend to clear up the salary room).

With those four teams confirmed, is it actually possible that your Colorado Avalanche are one of the remaining two teams of six interested (confirmed by Sundin's agent, J.P. Barry).

Does Colorado need Sundin? Well, no, seeing as they have two centers on their current roster who're better/equally as good as Sundin. Sometimes logic doesn't play into a general managers decisions, though. However, Francois Giguere said before July 1st that he wouldn't be making any big splashes, and he's kept his word. With the exception of re-signings, he's only signed one player who'll make more than 1 million dollars next season (Tucker). He was even stingy in contract negotiations with Jose Theodore who eventually signed in Washington. Does this really sound like a guy who you believe has offered Sundin a multi-million dollar contract?

I'd say there's a 1% chance of Sundin coming to Colorado. The reason the percentage isn't 0% is because this is his former franchise loaded with his former friends/teammates (Tucker, Raycroft, Foote, Sakic, hopefully Forsberg). Also, this senario would involve Sundin taking a HUGE paycut, and possibly would invlove a sign and trade type deal.

Honestly, I think Sundin's career may be coming to an end. He's 37 and hasn't even started skating yet with training camp right around the corner. At least Sakic was keeping himself in shape while contemplating retirement.

Trade Alert: Tampa Bay has traded D Filip Kuba, D Alexandre Picard, and SJ's 1st rounder to Ottawa for D Andrej Meszaros.

What a circus in Tampa Bay.
