Avs Sign Two
Today the Avalanche signed forwards Ryan Stoa and Cedric Lalonde-McNicoll to entry level contracts.
Stoa was taken 34th overall in the 2005 draft. He's a big guy at 6-3 200lbs, and was the captain of Gophers (NCAA) up until today. Hopefully he'll fill the Avs need for a 3rd line center next season (although he also plays LW. EDIT: He hasn't played center in a while, so the search continues for a checking center). Stoa had 24 goals and 22 assist in 36 games with the Gophers this season.
McNicoll is a guy who was never drafted. The Avs took notice that he was lighting up the QMJHL (38-66-104 in 65 pg) and signed him. Chances are he'll start next season with Lake Erie of the AHL. I'm not sure if he'll ever turn into an NHLer, but I think he was worth taking a chance on given his stats.
